Destinations for European Beach Holidays

When you hear people talking about a beach holiday in Europe, you often hear about Crete and everything it has to offer.Stunning hotels, villas from companies such as Villa Plus, good food, beautiful beaches and everything in in the middle of – there is a reason why Crete is on the map of many vacationers.

Below we will see why:

There is a lot of history here

Chania breathes tradition and history and is one of the most beautiful cities on the island. The stunning architecture will make you feel as if you have taken a step back in time, especially when you explore the Venetian port, the old town and a wide variety of Turkish and Venetian style villas. In addition, no trip would be complete without trying the local drink “tsicudia”. This drink with an alcohol content of 45% is a favorite among the locals. The beaches are superb.

What beach holiday would be complete without a fantastic beach?

The beaches of Crete may be a little further away from the hustle and bustle of the cities, but this makes them even more calm and exciting.

Which beaches should you try?

Balos beach, which looks like a lagoon (which is why it is one of the most photographed beaches in Crete) and stands out for its magnificent natural beauty, Elafonisi beach, which can be reached by a small reef on foot, and in some places even visible pink sand, and Falassarna beach with its crystal clear sapphire waters and incredible sunsets.

Breathtaking Gorges

Natural beauty is what there is in Crete and one of its most emblematic features are the canyons. Not only are they perfect for excursions, but they are also a great place to take a walk. Many of them are available and allow you to explore the local nature and meet the famous goats of the island. The Samaria Gorge, the Agia Irini Gorge and the Kurtaliotico Gorge are among the best canyons to visit. This is an incredibly affordable place

Another great attraction of Crete is that it is very easily accessible from several areas, including three airports. You can also take the ferry from the port of Athens (these ferries usually run 2 or 3 times a day) or, if you are on the island, there are ferries from Santorini, Rhodes, Karpathos, Mykonos, Gitio and Gavdos (some only operate during the high season). It is perfect for jumping from island to island.

It is this ability to make jumps off the island that is also extremely attractive for many tourists, as it allows them to explore certain islands (and cultures) during the holidays of a lifetime. Crete is often the starting point for these adventures (partly thanks to its own airports) and many excursions are available here. Or, if you want to do it yourself, there are the ferries mentioned above that will easily take you from one place to another.

Well, if these five main reasons to visit Crete have not made you look for plane tickets yet, we don’t know what it will give!
